PREF Group provides CNC and hydraulic press brake machine for high-precision sheet metal bending, our machines range from 30T to 12000T capacity and are widely used in steel fabrication and industrial manufacturing.
A tandem press brake uses two synchronized press brakes to bend long parts that exceed the practical capacity of a single machine. It can also allow the machines to work separately when long-part production is not required.

The CNC controller is the central control unit of the tandem press brake system. It manages bending programs, axis movement, backgauge positioning, crowning compensation, safety signals, and synchronized operation between machines.
High-quality controller options such as Delem, ESA, and Cybelec can support efficient bending-cycle calculation, 2D or 3D graphic programming, angle correction, material data management, and multi-axis control. For tandem bending, the controller must also coordinate both press brakes so long workpieces can be bent with stable timing and repeatable accuracy.
The hydraulic system uses electro-hydraulic servo synchronization to provide stable bending force and accurate ram movement. It supports strong anti-eccentric-load capability, high synchronization accuracy, and reliable pressure control during heavy or long-sheet bending.
System pressure can be adjusted according to practical bending requirements. For tandem applications, hydraulic stability is especially important because both machines must maintain consistent force output and ram position during the same bending cycle.
Servo motors provide high dynamic response, accurate movement control, and improved energy efficiency compared with traditional drive solutions. They help reduce operating cost while improving positioning performance and production efficiency.
Depending on configuration, servo motors can be used for key axis movement, backgauge positioning, and synchronized control. Stable servo performance helps the tandem system respond quickly to program commands while maintaining bending accuracy.
The oil pump is built for stable hydraulic oil delivery and long service life. High-strength construction, internal noise reduction design, and good resistance to oil contamination help maintain reliable operation under continuous bending conditions.
For long workpieces and higher tonnage applications, stable pump performance supports consistent hydraulic pressure and reduces the risk of abnormal movement during repeated production cycles.
The backgauge system uses ball screws, linear guide rails, and servo-controlled transmission to improve positioning accuracy and repeatability. Compared with basic screw-rod structures, this configuration provides smoother movement and better long-term precision.
For tandem bending, the backgauge must support accurate sheet positioning across a longer working length. Optional multi-axis backgauge configurations can be selected according to part complexity, flange depth, and production efficiency requirements.
Reliable electrical components help maintain stable signal transmission, strong anti-interference performance, and safe machine operation. The electrical cabinet should be arranged for clear wiring, easy inspection, and convenient maintenance.
For tandem systems, electrical stability is more demanding because two machines need coordinated control, synchronized feedback, safety interlock, and accurate communication during each bending cycle.
Crowning compensation corrects ram and table deformation during bending. The system calculates compensation according to bending force, workpiece length, tooling condition, and machine deformation characteristics.
For long parts, crowning is essential for keeping the bending angle consistent from the center to both ends of the workpiece. A well-matched crowning system helps improve straightness, reduce angle deviation, and improve final part quality.
Press brake tooling determines the bending angle, inside radius, flange shape, and final forming quality. Correct punch and die selection should be based on material type, thickness, bending length, V-opening, and required part geometry.
For tandem press brakes, tooling consistency is critical. When two machines bend one long workpiece together, tooling height, segmentation, alignment, and clamping accuracy must be carefully matched to avoid step marks or angle differences.
The fast clamp allows the upper punch to be replaced quickly and accurately. It reduces tool change time, improves operator efficiency, and helps keep the tooling position stable during repeated production.
For long tooling segments used in tandem bending, quick and accurate clamping is important for alignment. It helps reduce setup time and supports more consistent bending results across the complete working length.
Tandem Configuration Note
A tandem press brake system uses two press brakes working together under synchronized CNC control. The parameters below are listed for one single machine. When two machines are linked for tandem bending, the effective bending force and bending length are combined according to the selected pair. For example, two 400T/4000 machines form an 800T/8000 tandem bending solution. Final tandem capacity depends on machine pairing, controller synchronization, tooling length, foundation layout, and the actual workpiece requirement.
